My Mum has been in a Care Home for the past 6 years being looked after by the wonderful, caring and compassionate Staff at Bupa Tararu! As excellent as the care is, any Care Home can be stressful at times, and surprisingly lonely for our loved one’s especially due to the complications of Dementia.  All they want to do is go home! It can also be a very difficult for us the family and friends. We simply want our loved ones to be content and happy.

During my Mum’s years in Care I felt a need to play my part by enriching her life where I could. Of course visiting was the obvious answer but we can’t be there all the time. So, for those times we couldn’t be there, I set about researching and purchasing some products to bring about some joy, companionship and ease the frustrations of, anxiety and loneliness that memory loss causes. Most of these products had to come from overseas. What a difference they have made in Mum’s life!

Now days when I visit I’m overwhelmed seeing Mum enjoying her music, companion cat on her knee and content.

This inspired me to start Memory Matters NZ – a Hamilton online shop specialising in meaningful products for our Elderly and those living with Dementia. No longer do you need to search and shop overseas as it’s all here in NZ waiting to bring about some positive change in your loved one’s life.
